MTP/MPO trunk cables connect MTP/MPO modules together as a permanent link. They facilitate rapid deployment of
high-density backbone cabling in data centers and other high density fiber environments, reducing network installation or
reconfiguration time and cost.
Its ecient plug-and-play structure greatly reduces the initial installation and routine
maintenance costs. Pre-terminated trunk cables can also be used with plug and play modules or MTP/MPO connector
panels to achieve multi-level connection. Pre-terminated trunk cable can also be extended by MTP/MPO panel with
plug-and play module. They are used to interconnect module cassettes, panels or ruggedized MTP/MPO fanouts, spanning
MDA, HDA and EDA zones.

MTP/MPO Trunk cables are foundational components in modern fiber optic technology, particularly for high-density network environments like data centers. MPO (Multi-Fiber Push-on) is a generic term for multi-core optical fiber connectors, while MTP® (Multi-Fiber Termination Push-on) is a registered trademark of US Conec Ltd., representing an advanced version of MPO with superior mechanical and optical performance. Despite their differences, MTP and MPO connectors are fully compatible and interoperable.
MTP/MPO trunk cables are pre-terminated assemblies that utilize multi-fiber ribbon cables fitted with these specialized connectors. Their primary purpose is to significantly increase cable density and optimize valuable circuit card and rack space, making them ideally suited for current 40G/100G cabling systems and facilitating future network speed upgrades.
These cables offer several key advantages for high-density cabling networks. They can accommodate multiple fibers within a single interface, enhancing network capacity and simplifying cable management. MTP connectors, in particular, feature engineered enhancements such as metal pin clamps for stronger grip, an oval spring design to protect fiber ribbons, and a floating ferrule for consistent physical contact, all contributing to reduced insertion loss and improved performance.
MTP/MPO cables are available in various fiber counts, including 12-fiber, 24-fiber, and emerging 16-fiber configurations, and support different fiber modes like multimode (OM3/OM4/OM5) for shorter distances and single-mode (OS2) for longer transmissions. They also come with different jacket types, such as Low Smoke Zero Halogen (LSZH) for safety in enclosed spaces, and plenum (OFNP) or riser (OFNR) ratings for fire protection in building installations. Proper alignment of male (with pins) and female (without pins) connectors, typically joined by an MPO coupling, is crucial for successful light transmission.
